As a child, one of my favourite after school snack was a toast or a crepe with a big spoonful of Nutella over a thin layer of butter! Ohlala I can hear you think “As if Nutella did not contain a lot of fat already!”. And you are right, which is why I have made my very own Vegan Nutella, with no oil and no sugar, for a much more nutritious and delicious after work snack 😊.
I have always loved Nutella, the sweet smell of hazelnuts, the silky texture and the chocolate flavour, I loved it all! But this is until I realised that half a jar of Nutella was made of refined sugar, while the other half contains palm oil, powdered milk, and a little bit of cocoa and hazelnuts, not too much though as those last two are costly.
We can skip all the nasty ingredients found in a jar of Nutella by making our own version for a Quick & Easy Vegan Nutella – with NO oil & NO sugar.
Half of my Vegan Nutella is made of hazelnuts! Hazelnuts are full of fibre, vitamins and minerals, and rich in monounsaturated fat contributing to a healthy heart.
To achieve a beautiful and silky Vegan Nutella, place the hazelnuts in a food processor and blend until it becomes very fine and slightly sticky before adding all the other ingredients.
In Your Shopping List all you need is:
- Maple Syrup
- Soya Cream
- Vanilla & Salt

Optional: I like to add a spoonful of chia seeds to the mix, these tiny little seeds pack a nutritional punch.

Vegan Nutella - with NO oil and NO sugar - for a delicious and nutritious treat. Spread on top of your favourite crepes or pancake!
- 150 gr roasted and unsalted hazelnuts
- 2 tbsp. natural cocoa powder
- ½ tsp. sea salt
- 80 gr maple syrup
- ½ tsp. vanilla extract
- 100 gr soya cream
- 1 tbsp. chia seeds (finely ground) (optional)
(Omit this 1st step if you have bought roasted hazelnuts).
On a baking tray, spread out the hazelnuts and bake at 180°C for 10 to 12 minutes.
Take the hazelnuts out of the oven and wait until they have chilled, then remove the very thin and brown layer on top of each ones.
Place the hazelnuts in your food processor and blend for a minute or 2(depending on the speed of your food processor) until the nuts are finely ground and sticky.
Add the cacao powder, salt, maple syrup, vanilla extract, soya cream and mix until it becomes very smooth (for about 30 seconds).
You want to achieve a smooth and thick consistency.
Optional: add 1 tbsp. of chia seeds to the mix and mix one more time.
Transfer your Vegan Nutella into an empty jar of marmalade or a bowl, cover and keep in the refrigerator.
